Field recordings made in 1975 in Kathmandu and other Nepalese towns and villages by the renowned ethnomusicologist Deben Bhattacharya. The music is partly folk music, comprising of songs and mask dances, and temple music in worship of Krishna and Govinda. Colour photos and detailed descriptions of the themes of the music and the original instruments played. Total playing time: 58:01 min.

Authentic and Excellent

This album, skillfully recorded and compiled, brings together some of the finest Nepalese musicians to present music that is authentic and excellent. This is not an album tailored to finicky Western ears; this is a collection of songs for the discerning, curious, and reverent listener. While often challenging to listen to, it is also very rewarding.
